Male and female volunteers can act supportively and help several people at the same time.

We provide training, support and supervision at every stage of volunteering activities.

The provision of social support housing can play a key role in the settlement and integration of refugees. There are many forms of housing provision, tailored to the needs of both hosts and those seeking refuge.

Forms of housing provision

  • Lending (making available free of charge):

    • The landlord may lend the flat or part of it to a refugee person free of charge for a fixed or indefinite period of time. The lending agreement does not need to be in writing, although for clarity it is recommended that it is drawn up.

  • Rental on preferential terms:

    • The landlord may rent the flat on favourable terms, e.g. for a reduced rent. If this is the case, it is advisable to conclude a written rental agreement that sets out the rights and obligations of both parties.

  • Working with our organisation:

    • If you have a spare room or flat let us know. Together we will look for favourable solutions.

Steps to take when providing housing

  • Notification of willingness to help:

    • Those who are interested in providing housing can make an offer to us.

  • Drawing up a contract:

    • We will help you prepare a contract (lending or rental agreement), setting out the conditions for the use of the premises, the duration and the rights and obligations of both parties.

  • Housing preparation:

    • Make sure that the flat is in good working order, equipped with basic appliances and ready for the new residents.

Legal and tax aspects

  • Lending agreement: In the case of free provision of housing, the lending agreement regulates the use of the premises. It is worth remembering that although a written form is not required, it is recommended for the security of both parties.

  • Lease agreement: When renting on preferential terms, a standard rental agreement sets out the rights and obligations of both parties, including the rent and the term of the lease.

  • Tax issues: When providing housing to refugees, it is worthwhile to familiarise yourself with the applicable tax laws, which may provide for reliefs or exemptions related to this form of assistance.

Send in an application and co-found an umbrella group, i.e. a group of people who work together to support a specific refugee person or family.

People in the group may know each other or we will help you to join with other people. We will help you to build and establish the structure of the group, define the scope of the commitments and the length of time for which the group will declare its willingness to operate (min. 6 months).

We offer training, supervision and regular meetings to support each other, discuss, plan and seek solutions.

The umbrella group supports the individual or family in the following selected areas

  • Provision of housing and its furnishings: Assistance in finding suitable accommodation and furnishing it.
  • Language support: Organisation of language courses or assistance in learning the language of the host country.
  • Job search support: Assistance with CV preparation, job search and preparation for interviews.
  • Logistical assistance: Facilitation in moving to a new place of residence, including support in the use of public transport.
  • Access to education and health care services: Assistance in enrolling children in schools, finding medical facilities and using available health services.
  • Administrative support: Assistance in dealing with official formalities, such as registration of residence or obtaining necessary documents.
  • Cultural orientation: Introduction to local customs, traditions and social and cultural life.

Group structure

  • An umbrella group usually consists of 5-7 people who together support one family or person with a refugee experience. Each member of the group has a specific role - e.g. helping with official matters, supporting with language learning, organising integration meetings or ensuring contact with the person being supported. Among the patrons there is also a coordinator, who oversees the activities and contacts our team.

The group works as a team - meeting regularly, discussing progress and planning next steps. By working together, an individual approach to each person is possible and real help with daily life and the integration process.

The role of our Association

  • The role of our organisation - the coordinator of the Social Patronage:

    • Recruitment and training of patrons

    • Selection of groups and linking them to refugees

    • Substantive and organisational support

    • Resolving difficulties and crisis situations

    • Organisation of integration and revision meetings

    • Monitoring the course of action

    • Ensuring communication and quality of relationships

Social patronage is concrete assistance to refugee individuals or families that brings great satisfaction and has a real impact on the lives and the integration process.
